The K4-LK is a function-only lighting expansion board which has been designed to be installed into the KATO N-scale MP36PH.
This board has three hookup wires - One RED Anode(+) wire (center) and two GREEN function wires(-). Simply solder the wires to the decoder as described below and your lighting kit will be ready to operate. (Also see the wiring diagram on the "Documents" tab) The K4-LK supplies light to the rear headlight as well as the rotary beacon on top.
NOTE: The K4-LK is not a decoder and does not offer any functionality by itself. The K4-LK is designed to be used with its parent decoder - the K4D6.
How to hook up the K4-LK:
With the K4D6 installed in your locomotive, place the K4-LK in the rear of the locomotive with the pads and wires facing forward toward the K4D6 decoder. The angular shape of the K4-LK will match the shape of the shell. Once in place, solder the wires from the K4-LK to the K4D6 in the same order they are found in the K4-LK. The RED wire attaches to the center pad, and the GREEN wires attach to their respective pads on the sides of the K4D6.
Once the wires are attached to the K4D6 you are ready to insert the K4-LK into the shell of your locomotive. Stand the K4-LK up so that the edge with the cutoff corners is facing up and the side with the wires is pointing towards the K4D6. Tip the top of the lighting board backwards to slip behind the red light tube in the roof of the locomotive. Then pop it into a vertical orientation so that the bottom edge rests on the small ledges provided by the clear plastic in the rear of the locomotive and the top of the board is pressing firmly against the top of the shell. Bend the wires slightly to allow them to fold as you replace the shell.
If your decoder is not already configured to support the K4-LK out of the package, the following CV's need to be adjusted:
- CV51 = 16
- CV52 = 37
- CV35 = 2
- CV36 = 4
You are now ready to run!
