This installation of TCS T1 Decoder is for HO Scale AusTrains Class 80 and was performed by I. Craddy.

Unclip body from chassis, four lugs beside bogie.
Unclip body from chassis, four lugs beside bogie.
Remove Body.
Remove Body.
Remove existing wiring and globes.
Remove existing wiring and globes.
Remove weight covering motor, by removing four screws.
Remove weight covering motor, by removing four screws.
Remove wires from motor.
Remove wires from motor.
Drill 3mm/1/8th hole through weight and deburr. Feed wires through hole and tape decoder to weight.
Drill 3mm/1/8th hole through weight and deburr. Feed wires through hole and tape decoder to weight.
Connect Orange Wire to bottom of Motor, and Grey wire to top.
Connect Orange Wire to bottom of Motor, and Grey wire to top.
Refit weight to chassis with drive shafts fitted. Replace four screws.
Refit weight to chassis with drive shafts fitted. Replace four screws.
Connect Red and Black wire to bogie, and add jumpers to other bogie.
Connect Red and Black wire to bogie, and add jumpers to other bogie.
Refit globes, join one side of each to the Blue wire with heat-shrink to prevent shorts. Join White wire to front light and the Yellow wire to rear light with heat-shrink.
Refit globes, join one side of each to the Blue wire with heat-shrink to prevent shorts. Join White wire to front light and the Yellow wire to rear light with heat-shrink.
Fit tape over wires to prevent them catching as you put the body back on.

Clip body back on.
Clip body back on.

Important Soldering Tip

Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. Over time, the acidic properties of liquid or paste flux will begin eating away at the fiberglass PCB and will damage it. Use only Rosin-core solder or no-clean flux approved for electronics use.

TCS recommends the use of Kester "44" Sn63 Pb37, .015" diameter Rosin-core solder. Kester part number 24-6337-0007.

Other solder tips

When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more than a 1/32 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire than half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
