This installation documentation is for the HO-Scale Korea Brass Models U25C. This installation uses the WOW101-KA-Diesel decoder, and was performed by TCS.

To begin removing the shell, flip the model over and use a small phillips head screwdriver to remove the couplers from each end of the locomotive. With the screws removed, pull directly outwards on each coupler to remove them from the pocket.

With both couplers removed, the shell can be removed by gently pulling straight upward. See here the frame with the shell removed.

To install the decoder, the original factory DC board must be removed. To do this, remove the screw on the back of the board and then unplug the 9-pin connector.

With the factory board removed, the WOW101-Diesel decoder can be plugged in.

To make space for the speaker and KeepAlive, the wires at each end of the locmotive must be shifted off to the side. On each end of the model there are pockets which are 35mm long by 14mm wide. Into the pocket on the FRONT of the locomotive, the KeepAlive can be placed; in the REAR, the speaker.

Shown above is the completed installation of decoder, KeepAlive, and speaker. Simply reverse the disassembly steps above to replace the shell, and your Korea Brass U25C is ready to roll with WOWSound!

Important Soldering Tip

Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. Over time, the acidic properties of liquid or paste flux will begin eating away at the fiberglass PCB and will damage it. Use only Rosin-core solder or no-clean flux approved for electronics use.

TCS recommends the use of Kester "44" Sn63 Pb37, .015" diameter Rosin-core solder. Kester part number 24-6337-0007.

Other solder tips

When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more than a 1/32 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire than half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
