This installation of TCS LL8 Decoder is for HO Scale Walthers Proto 2000 RS27 Limited Edition and was performed by A.G.

Remove the right Phillips screw that is circled in red.

Remove the left Phillips screw that is circled in red.

Gently remove the shell. The picture above shows the original light board prior to the LL8 Decoder installation.

Remove the DCC Dummy plug.

Remove both Phillips screws that hold the original light board and chassis together.

Install our LL8 decoder exactly as shown above.

Because of the fact that this particular locomotive comes with the yellow wire function wired backwards - you need to reverse its polarity. You can do it two ways - cut the LED off and reverse its leads or simply remove the two black plastic wire holders on the DCC plug and reverse the LED polarity. The idea is to get the blue wire connected to the positive part of the diode (the short diode pin) and the yellow wire connected to the negative part of the diode (long diode pin).
Because of the fact that this particular locomotive comes with the yellow wire function wired backwards - you need to reverse its polarity. Important Soldering Tip

Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. Over time, the acidic properties of liquid or paste flux will begin eating away at the fiberglass PCB and will damage it. Use only Rosin-core solder or no-clean flux approved for electronics use.

TCS recommends the use of Kester "44" Sn63 Pb37, .015" diameter Rosin-core solder. Kester part number 24-6337-0007.

Other solder tips

When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more than a 1/32 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire than half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
