This installation documentation is for the HO Scale Rivarossi 2 Truck Heisler. This installation uses the M1P-1" decoder, and was performed by A.G.

Fantastic slow running with the geared drive. Front and rear axles driven as in prototype, 2nd and 3rd axles powered by the tie-rods. Independent trucks with universal joints on the drive shafts. Wheel diameter is about 12mm. ; circumference is then about 37.69mm.; 28 seconds to revolve once at speed step 1; 37.69mm divided by 28 seconds equals 0.001346 m/s; gives a prototype speed of 0.117m/s.

Using a phillips screw driver, remove the screw inside the stack.

Gently remove the piping from the air tank and lift the front of the boiler upward to disengage the wire braces that holds it to the frame, then pull forward to release the pegs and handrails from the cab.

Gently pull the rear sandbox (marked in red) from the back of the bunker.

Remove the small air tank from the right front of the cab, under the running board.

Remove the 8-pin "dummy" plug as shown in the picture above.

Plug in the decoder so that the Orange wire lines up with Pin #1 of the socket. Pin #1 will be designated with a "1" or a small arrow/chevron.

Here is a picture of finished decoder installation. Black electrical tape was placed over the decoder so that it cannot be seen through the cabin's windows. Reverse these steps to reattach the parts.

Important Soldering Tip

Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. Over time, the acidic properties of liquid or paste flux will begin eating away at the fiberglass PCB and will damage it. Use only Rosin-core solder or no-clean flux approved for electronics use.

TCS recommends the use of Kester "44" Sn63 Pb37, .015" diameter Rosin-core solder. Kester part number 24-6337-0007.

Other solder tips

When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more than a 1/32 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire than half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
