The WOW101 decoders (items 1516 & 1517) come with a standard hardwire 9-pin harness. For ease of install, we unplugged the 9-pin hardwire harness and replaced it with a T-1" (item 1359) 9-pin to 8-pin harness, highlighted with the red rectangle in the above picture.

With the decoder secured, next plug in the harness for the KA2 and speaker wires. For this install, we simply used some CA glue to adhere the KA2 to the tender chassis.

Note: This tender has a lot of room, so there are other places to locate the KA2 if desired. Wherever placed, make sure to secure the KA2 to avoid any rattling or damage.

At this point, we also added a 2 Pin Mini Connector with purple wires (item #1521) for the speaker connection for ease of install.

With the decoder now installed, we can now install our speaker. In our install, we used our 28mm WOWSpeaker (item # 1555) and mounted it to the underside of the coal load.

First, mark the area around the speaker and using a #68 drill bit, then drill your holes within your markings.

With the holes drilled, next install the WOWSpeaker to the underside of the coal load. In our install, we used some hotglue to seal and adhere the speaker to the tender.

Fianlly, connect your speaker wires and screw the tender shell back onto the tender chassis, making sure not to pinch the speaker wires.

Important Soldering Tip

Please do not use any flux either liquid or paste on the mother board. Over time, the acidic properties of liquid or paste flux will begin eating away at the fiberglass PCB and will damage it. Use only Rosin-core solder or no-clean flux approved for electronics use.

TCS recommends the use of Kester "44" Sn63 Pb37, .015" diameter Rosin-core solder. Kester part number 24-6337-0007.

You can order this solder from the following retailers:
Digikey - PN:KE1110-ND
Techni-Tool - PN:488SO6775

Other solder tips

When stripping wire, only strip a tiny little bit of the insulation. Strip no more than a 1/32 of an inch. When the wire gets tinned with solder, the insulation will shrink back more. Try to not expose any more wire than half the length of the solder pad at most. In no case should solder or exposed wire wire ever be outside the boundary of the the solder pad you are attaching a wire to.
